Torpado

The ancient and glorious Torpado brand was born in Padua in 1895 and has been owned by Cicli Esperia since 2001. In the 1950s and up until 1962, Torpado had a professional team that took part in eleven editions of the Giro d'Italia.
The founder of the Torpado company is Torresini from which the acronym of the brand (Torresini-Padova) comes from.
The historical site was in Via Nicolò Tommaseo in Padua and then moved to the Industrial Zone.
The riders' jersey was blue with a black horizontal band.
Those were the years of Bevilacqua, Brasola, Conterno, Dall'Agata, De Filippi, who won a stage of the Giro, Favero, Gismondi, Giusti, Zamboni but, above all, Cleto Maule and Aldo Moser who rivaled Coppi and Magni reaching, respectively fourth and fifth in the 1956 Giro. Aldo Moser won two stages of the Giro, one of which on the Pordoi.
The frames for the team were made personally for each rider, starting from the basic Torpado frame and then modified according to the needs of the athlete. The painting of the frame was done by immersion and then it was placed in the oven. The filleting and finishing of the paint was done by hand. Before sandblasting, the frame was rubbed with sandpaper, then the rust inhibitor was applied. The frames were made of steel while the handlebars were made of aluminum.
There was a historic shop in Piazza Insurrection, "Torpado" where bikes were sold but above all trophies were exhibited. At that time, Torpado was the second Italian company in the sector in terms of sales and employees.

The founding element of the Torpado company was teamwork, harmony but above all a great passion. The same passion that distinguishes Cicli Esperia today with the TORPADO URSUS and TORPADO SUDTIROL Teams, who participate in the mountain bike World Cup trials, the Italian internationals, the major international competitions, the European, World and Olympic championships.
